Multimodal interventions for bundle implementation to decrease central line-associated bloodstream infections in adult intensive care units in a teaching hospital in Taiwan, 2009-2013

Sterile, single-use pre-assembled sets can lead to less errors and a reduced process duration

Multimodal intervention, including hand hygiene promotion and introduction of a catheter cart and a prepacked catheter insertion set. Catheter utilization decreased from 0.71 to 0.63. CLABSI incidence rate decreased from 9.27 to 6.42 per 1000 central line days (31 %). CRBSI rates decreased from 1.51 to 0.62 per 1000 central line days (59 %). HHC was above 80 %.
