Multimodal campagnes can result in a more rapid and sustained improvement in hand hygiene compliance than traditional campaignes.

Compared to previous hand hygiene (HH) campaigns, the implementation of a multifaceted HH-campaign resulted in a sustained increase in compliance (from 72% to 94%). Strong support from the medical centre leadership, educational approaches, and monthly feedback were, amongst others, part of this new campaign.
