Irritative potency of selected wound antiseptics in the hen's egg test on chorioallantoic membrane to predict their compatibility to wounds

Surgical wound irrigation with antimicrobial active ingredients can help to prevent surgical site infections

The authors investigated the irritation potential of selected surgical irrigation solutions using a hen's egg test. No irritation potential was found for polihexanide solutions as well as for haemoglobin spray, dexpanthenol and allantoin. The authors conclude that polihexanide and hypochlorite are the most suitable for surgical irrigation.
