Tolerability and acceptability of three alcohol-based hand-rub gel formulations: a randomized crossover study.

A high user acceptance plays a central role when selecting a suitable hand disinfectant.

Comparison of three different formulations for hand disinfectants regarding acceptability and tolerability: the first formulation was isopropanol-based, the second formulation was ethanol-based and the third formulation was ethanol-based and contained additional superfatting agents. Overall, the study showed no significant variability in tolerability, but differences in acceptance of different formulations among participants. The authors conclude that acceptability of hand disinfectants among healthcare workers increases by giving them a choice between different product formulations.
