Helicobacter pylori

Gram-negative bacilli that are considered the cause of various gastric diseases (gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer). In Germany, the average prevalence rate ranges between 40 % and 50 %. The transmission path is still unclear. However, likely paths are Smear infection and mouth-to-mouth transmission.

Up to 90 per cent of all acute and chronic cases of gastritis are caused by Helicobacter pylori.
