German Cosmetics Directive (KVO)

German: Kosmetikverordnung (KVO).

The content basically corresponds to the European Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC and complements the regulations of the German Food, Commodities and Feed Code (LFGB) on the definition and the trade with cosmetics.

The KVO contains lists of substances that may not be used for the manufacture or treatment of cosmetics, or to a limited extent for certain areas and types of application. In addition, it includes regulations on colourants and preservatives, the labelling of cosmetics, the obligation of documentation, and on the manufacturer's/importer's obligations of notification and reporting to the competent supervisory authority.
