Hepatitis D virus
(enveloped virus)

Hepatitis D virus is a virusoid (defect virus). For replication, it depends on the enveloped hepatitis B virus as helper virus. The virus belongs to the Hepadnaviridae family.

The clinical symptom of hepatitis D infections corresponds to hepatitis B infections with possible cirrhosis. Infections triggered by hepatitis B virus in combination with hepatitis D virus are often more severe.

The main transmission path is via blood and tissue respectively.
