Tolerance and acceptability of 14 surgical and hygienic alcohol-based hand rubs.

Sterillium has good skin compatibility and high user acceptance.

The study examined the tolerability and user acceptance of 14 different hand disinfectants for hygienic or surgical hand disinfection. Products were tested against the current hospital standards. The standard for surgical hand disinfection was Sterillium. The five-month study had four three-week phases in which test products were used instead of the reference product. Before and after each test period, skin dryness and irritation was examined. Additionally, the user acceptance, ease of use and whether a switch to the new product was desired was determined by means of a questionnaire. Only 3 of 8 surgical hand rubs, were similarilly well tolerated than Sterillium. The evaluation of the questionnaire revealed that employees wanted to continue using Sterillium for surgical hand disinfection.

Use disinfectants safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
