Bundles Prevent Surgical Site Infections After Colorectal Surgery: Meta-analysis and Systematic Review.

Intervention bundles can reduce the risk of surgical site infections in colorectal sugeries by up to 40%

Colorectal surgeries have particulary high rates of surgical site infections (SSIs). A meta-analysis was conducted on studies with pre- and post-implementation data to evaluate the impact of intervention bundles on SSI rates. The analysis found that bundles can effectively reduce the risk of SSIs, by up to 40%. Bundles that include sterile closure trays, pre-closure glove changes, and maxumum barrier precautions (MBP) with oral antibiotics, showed significantly greater SSI risk reduction. Successful implementation and compliance with these bundles can improve patients' surgical quality of care.
