Trichinella spiralis
(parasite)

Trichinella spiralis is a metazoal (multicellular) parasite of the Trichinellidae family. It belongs to the phylum Nematoda (roundworms or pinworms).

The parasite is the causative organism of trichinosis, which may lead to oedema, urticaria, meningitis, encephalitis, myocarditis, and pneumonia.

Transmission mainly occurs via contaminated water and food respectively.

For a successful inactivation of parasites, specific disinfectants effective against parasites are required.
