Yersinia enterocolitica

Yersinia enterocolitica is a Gram-negative, aerobic and facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium. It belongs to the Enterobacteriaceae family.

Yersinia enterocolitica triggers intestinal and extraintestinal yersiniosis, involving a broad spectrum of symptoms, e.g. enteritis or lymphadenitis.

Transmission mainly occurs via contaminated water and food respectively.
